5 changes of iHerb shipping to Taiwan

During 2022.Sep 27~ Nov. 10, iHerb announced on Facebook and website that there are some new changes for orders shipping to Taiwan. There are 5 main changes :
1. 取消售價包含關稅
2.預收關稅，加快通關
3.售價調漲
4. 新增全家超商取貨，買對商品可免運費
5. 台灣所有運送方式都要提交「紙本委任書」

1. The short-term duty-paid price policy for Taiwan is cancelled, now the *product price for Taiwan* does not include Taiwan Customs tax.

In June 2022, iHerb changed original price for Taiwan to tax-paid price, the customs duties of Taiwan were included in the price. It's much more expensive than original price, 30% more for nutrition supplements / healthy foods products, and 5% for most other general categories. In Sep. 2022, iHerb cancelled the duty-paid price policy for the orders shipping to Taiwan.

2. Customs duties (DDP) will be collected in advance at checkout. As to free-duty orders,iHerb will refund the tax after receiving the goods.

Petty bourgeoisie are more concerned about tax exemption for overseas purchases of less than NTD2,000. During June to Sep 14, 2022, Taiwan Customs tax is included in price, so no matter whether it's less than NTD2,000, iHerb will not refund the tax. Now it has been changed to price that does not include Taiwan Customs tax. However, it will still be pre-collected when checking out, so that when entering Taiwan customs, it can be cleared more smoothly and quickly.

Regardless of whether the rewards points are used or not, the purchase amount for clearance includes subtotal amount + shipping fee + any expenses related to this shopping, and those with insurance will also be included. For example, if your order totally original price amount is NTD3,000 , after discount the subtotal is NTD1,800, shipping fee is 0, and you use rewards NTD500, the actual payment is NTD1,300. In this case, Taiwan customs will take NTD1,800 as the amount of this order.

3. iHerb's products become more expensive?! The price for Taiwan has increased by about 7~10%
( I pick up some products from different brands and categories to calculate the increasing rate. iHerb doesn't mention about this officially. )

✅ iHerb brands products *(←click to link) increase by about 7.5%. the least increase. The best selling brands like - * Now Foods , some of their products such as fish oil OMEGA-3, lutein, NAC, etc., have large increase by about 25%. There are other brands that may have increased to this much. Those who want to compare prices can *switch the delivery location in the shopping cart, all *in US dollars* then can know how much is increased for each product...

I had contact iHerb to ask about price increase for Taiwan, and the customer service replied: This year (2022) the price for Taiwan is adjusted due to various uncontrollable factors, including the manufacturer's price increase, and exchange rate fluctuations affected by the economic environment.We still do our best to offer economical shipping, a friendly returns policy and always maintain very high standards in terms of product quality.

I think the reason for iHerb's product price only increased for Taiwan is that they have to spend more management / material costs to process *tax refunds- and -Taiwan Customs' declaration requirements. So I think this is reasonable. Besides, iHerb is very nice to offer *Learn & Win Rewards program..and many more lower discount events.. The increased part of the price can be offset with rewards points, then I feel it is not so much increased, the change is just the discount becomes less in other perspective. ( 😅哈哈 ~ 忍不住有點對自己苦笑OS 😁 不用那麼精算啦，iHerb已經給很多好康了唷 🤭🥳 )

However, for those orders over NTD2000, besides having to pay Customs tax, now the price increase adds up more. So perhaps need to calculate and find smart ways to get a better shopping amount.

4. iHerb offers new delivery option for Taiwan - "FamilyMart Pickup". The shipping fee will increase or reduce according to different products / weight classes (actually no specific general rules), and there are chances to get free shipping.

How to save more money shopping at iHerb and shipping to Taiwan?

💰省錢方法 1：每張訂單都符合免關稅可退稅

A single purchase over NTD1800 to get free shipping, and less than NTD2000 to make it a tax-free order. Residents in Taiwan can have oversea shopping tax-free welfare for 6 times / each first and second half of a year.If you want to buy more than NTD2,000, you can split multiple orders, those orders can pay by the same person, but the recipient and phone number of each order needs to be different, so that can avoid customs duties. The 6 times/half year quota is according to the recipient and phone number. All the recipients need to register EZ WAY real-name authentication and hand in Letter of Authorization (POA).

It might be a bit troublesome to split multiple orders, but if there are a lot of products you want to buy when a big discount promotion is ongoing, it's better to place order as soon as possible just in case of "out of stock". This is a very common situation.

If there are multiple orders placed by the same person, the payment and the recipient are the same person, as long as the flight/customs clearance import declaration date of the order is not the same day, they will not be combined to calculate the Customs Tax. It is safer to wait at least five days or one week before place another order. Maybe you can ask iHerb customer service if they can help to stagger the delivery time.

拆單還有一個好處就是可以多買「➡️🔖TRY好物試用」商品，一張訂單只能買一件，分多筆訂單就可以多買幾款囉 😉 沒買過的商品才能用試用價購買和賺評論獎勵金。

💰省錢方法 2：累積獎勵金

Earning more rewards points can be regarded as offsetting the price increase. For example, buy products you haven't bought before,can get a $1 reward for giving product review，這是可以穩拿的。用自己的推薦連結給親朋好友到iHerb購物，也可以得到獎勵金。

💰省錢方法 3：買iHerb自主品牌商品

儘量買🔖iHerb brands products * 的商品，折扣特價都會比較優惠，而且台灣的售價也比其它品牌漲得比較少。

💰省錢方法 4：運送到香港或美國再集運回台

如果想買超過2000元又覺得拆單麻煩、台灣的售價太貴（美國/香港目前都還維持是比較低的原價），或是想買的商品台灣缺貨、iHerb不運送台灣的商品、商品不會太重…，以上這些情形或許可以考慮改用香港或美國集運回來 ( refer to this article ➡️ Consolidation shipments & Fee Comparison). Normally, the products iHerb does not ship to Taiwan are usually classified as pharmaceuticals. It is necessary to apply to the Ministry of Health and Welfare for approval documents before they can be verified and cleared at the Customs. 💰省錢方法 5：用美元結帳方便省事省匯差

Checkout in US dollars is easier to control within NT2,000, and maybe can save some currency exchange price spreads charged by credit card company.

💳 MasterCard / VISA / JCB （←link to each official website）the exchange rates of the credit card issuing companies also have some differences（→ Check the US dollar exchange rate of all the credit cards）As to refund, Master card is better than VISA card. Master card will return 1% fee, the other 0.5% fee charged by local banks depends on banks own policies. There're more banks will return 1.5% back for Master cards payment. Most of banks will not return 1.5% fee for VISA card payment.

Checkout in US dollars is easier to control your order within NT2,000. You can check the customs exchange rate in advance.iHerb will give shipping company * the order amount in US dollars, and then convert it into Taiwan dollars at Taiwan Customs declares according to the "Recent Exchange Rate" of the month. Place an order when the USD/TWD exchange rate is relatively low.For example, U.S. dollar strengthened a while ago, 1 U.S. dollar = 33 Taiwan dollars, and now it has dropped to NTD31. At this time, it will be cheaper to place an order than before.

Many banks offer 1-3% cash-back or point rewards,which can be regarded as making up the price increase for Taiwan (more than 7%) .There will be a 1.5% handling fee for overseas shopping, so it's better to use cards that can offer more than 1.5% cash-back.. Another benefit is prepaid customs duties and shipping fees can also be discounted. ^^
